Somerset College is a co-educational, independent, inter-denominational school in the Christian tradition catering for students from Pre-Prep to Year 12.

What are the extra costs in addition to the tuition fees?
In addition to tuition fees, families pay a Services Fee which covers the cost of all services that are commonly provided for students at a particular Year Level or particular subjects. This includes camps, sport, excursions and other activities that are planned to support the curriculum. The cost of optional activities such as co-curricular lessons (individual music lessons or chess lessons, for example) will be charged as an Optional Account.
Why should I send my child to Somerset College?
It may be for the College’s magnificent facilities, the teaching and learning programmes in place, the strong pastoral care focus or our extensive co-curricular programmes. All of these help make Somerset but the key is the members of the Somerset Community, the people, who make the College a special place for children. Passionate teachers work with children to expand their horizons and encourage them to become lifelong learners.
How do I apply for admission to Somerset College?
We require a completed Application for Admission form signed by both parents, plus a copy of the prospective student’s birth certificate and recent school reports if applicable. The form can be downloaded from the Resources section of this page.
At what Year Levels can students enter Somerset College?
Our major intake years are Pre-Prep, Year 4 and Year 7. It is usual for positions to be available at the beginning of each year at other Year Levels as well. Please check with the Admissions Office for availability.
How old must students be to commence in Pre-Prep?
Students must be four by the end of June in the year they commence.
When do we find out if we have a position at Somerset?
Offers for intake years are made early in the year before entry. Other positions will be offered as vacancies arise.
How many students attend Somerset?
Approximately 1480 students attend Somerset College. There are approximately 700 students in the Junior School (Pre-Prep to Year 6) and 780 students in the Senior School (Years 7 to 12).
Does the College offer Scholarships?
Scholarships are offered to students entering Years 7, 10 and 11. These can be Academic, Music or General Excellence Scholarships, usually providing a remission of fees of between 25% and 75%. Scholarship testing occurs in February each year.
What sports are offered?
In the Senior School the following sports are offered: Athletics, AFL, Basketball, Chess, Cross Country, Cricket, Cycling, Sailing, Golf, Hockey, Netball, Rowing, Rugby, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Touch Football Volleyball and Water Polo.
What languages other than English are taught at Somerset?
Pre-Prep, Prep and Year 2 – Mandarin Years 2 to 5 – Italian Years 6 to 12 – French, German, Japanese plus ab initio Italian in Years 11 and 12
What performing arts opportunities are available for my child?
The College is proud of our Performing Arts programme. Each year, a Junior School and Senior School musical is produced and performed to packed houses. Another outstanding evening of entertainment is the House Plays. Keen performers can be involved in the Gold Coast Drama Festival as well. Many musical groups perform regularly throughout both the Junior and Senior Schools. These include ensembles, choirs, bands and orchestras.
