About Us

SunRice is one of the largest rice food companies in the world and one of Australia's leading branded food exporters.

Our proud history dates back to the establishment of a single rice mill in the Riverina region of New South Wales in 1950. Today we have operations – including state-of-the-art processing, packing and value added food plants - across Australia, the USA, the Middle East, the Pacific and Papua New Guinea.

Our company was built by the Australian rice industry over many decades, and today it’s strengthened by a broad portfolio of subsidiary and complementary businesses.

FAQs
How many people can I serve when I cook one cup raw white, brown or parboiled rice?
1 cup of raw/dry rice will serve 2 people when cooked. Each serve is approximately 1.5 cups cooked rice. This is very slightly less (but not significantly) for cooked brown rice. This applies to all cooked rice – 1 cup when cooked serves 2 people.
Does washing, rinsing or soaking brown rice remove the vitamins and minerals?
Rice does not contain very large amounts of vitamins or minerals however washing, rinsing or soaking brown rice does not remove any significant amount of the nutrients that are in the bran layer.
Why does brown rice take so long to cook?
Brown rice takes longer to cook because each grain is surrounded with a layer of bran. This layer contains good fats and many nutrients however this layer inhibits (slows down) the absorption of moisture during the cooking process. Once the moisture has penetrated into the centre of the rice grain the starch granules will start to gelatinise until the grain is fully cooked.
