The core business has grown from custom mixed dairy feed, steadily expanding into beef, poultry and pig.
Currently employing over 60 staff across 3 Victorian sites (east, west and central), annual tonnage of 200,000 and maintaining statewide nutritionist services, has allowed Reid Stockfeeds to deliver large business efficiencies and small business service.
Underpinning this is the desire to ensure no customer ever runs out of feed.
The roots of the business can be traced back to a debilitating drought in 1982. Faced with high interest rates and burdened by debt, Ian and Rosli were advised to sell their cropping and grazing farm. After exploring their options Reid Stockfeeds was born.
Using the on-farm 5tonne Ford truck, a tow behind auger, minimal silage and a freshly purchased roller, Reid Stockfeed grain began trickling out to a few select customers within the Stanhope district. Predominately supported by home-grown grain, 40 tonne was sold in 1983 followed by 140 and 203 tonne in proceeding years.
During this formative stage animal nutritionist Gareth Lewis was approached to devise a range of high analysis feeds for the dairy market. This relationship developed further with one-on-one farmer visits, farm field day stalls and over the phone technical advice for customers.
This innovative, customer-centered approach to the dairy feed industry drove the growth of the company in those early years. Even now it continues to be one of the strengths that Ian and Rosli pride their business on.
