Mindarie Regional Council

About Us
Welcome to Mindarie Regional Council, Western Australia's largest Waste Management Authority.

The MRC manages the disposal of over 300,000 tonnes of waste generated each year by people living in its seven government localities. These are the Cities of Joondalup, Perth, Stirling, Wanneroo and Vincent, and the Towns of Cambridge, Victoria Park.

Our vision is all about 'Winning Back Waste'.

Our History

Since early 1991, the region's household waste has been landfilled at the site operated by the MRC at Tamala Park, 35 km north of the centre of Perth. Some four million tonnes of waste have been sent to landfill at Tamala Park since operations began.

In line with our vision and mission, the MRC began work in the early 2000s on a major project to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, in support of the State Government's WAste2020 vision of "Towards Zero Waste". This has been achieved through the establishment of a Resource Recovery Facility, which is operated under contract to the MRC by BioVision 2020 Pty Ltd, based at Neerabup.

Community
Waste Management Is An Essential Service provided for the health of the community. It is important that the highest standards are used to dispose of waste, and in the reuse, recycling and recovery of waste.

The MRC now has two significant components to its business - the landfill, waste disposal and recycling precinct at Tamala Park; and the new Resource Recovery Facility at Neerabup, operated by BioVision 2020 under contract to the MRC.

This technically sophisticated waste treatment plant will deliver approximately 20% reduction in the total amount of waste send to landfill each year, and create some 30,000 tonnes of compost from 100,000 tonnes of household waste.
