About Us

Legacy is dedicated to caring for the families of deceased veterans. Today Legacy's caring and compassionate service assists over 100,000 widows and 1900 children and dependants with a disability. Legacy is a voluntary organisation supported by veterans, servicemen and women, and volunteers drawn from all walks of life.

Our support and services now extend to include the dependants of members of today's Australian Defence Force who lose their lives as a result of their military service.

Legacy is dedicated to enhancing the lives and opportunities of our families through innovative and practical programs aimed at:

  • The protection of individuals and families basic needs;

Our People

The Legacy family comprises: Legatees, Volunteers; Staff; and Widows.

Members of Legacy are known as 'Legatees'. These are those dedicated men and women who provide care and assistance to those for whom Legacy accepts responsibility. Historically, Legatees were returned servicemen although today Legacy welcomes membership enquiries from any person who shares the ideals of Legacy.

There are currently over 6100 Legatees throughout Australia, some having served Legacy for more than 50 years.

Legacy is also assisted by a wonderful group of volunteers who, while not wanting to commit to the role of a Legatee, are nevertheless happy to provide their time and expertise to more routine activities such as assisting with mail outs or selling badges during Legacy Week.

Get Involved

You can make a difference to Legacy in many ways. If you have some spare time, you can become a volunteer and assist with various projects throughout the year.

If you are keen to help our widows and families as a mentor and sounding board, you can become a Legatee. While this involves more time and commitment, the personal involvement and interaction can be deeply rewarding.

If time is an issue, you may wish to assist us financially by making a donation. Funds raised go towards the welfare of our widows, children and people with a disability to ensure they are properly provided for.
