We are the Far North Coast County Council (trading as Far North Coast Weeds), covering the Tweed, Byron, Ballina, Lismore City, Richmond Valley and Kyogle shires.
We work with all communities in the fight against weeds.
We aim to protect and enhance the environment on the Far North Coast of New South Wales by managing the impact of noxious weeds on all classes of land within the county district and actively encouraging best-practice techniques and land use.
By working together in weed management we will protect and enhance our region's environmental values and agricultural industries.
Why weed management is so importantWeeds have the potential to destroy or seriously degrade areas of environmental significance and slash the returns from all agricultural industries.
If not managed properly, they can have a serious impact on the region’s scenic beauty, industry, employment and recreation.

A weed is a plant growing where it is not wanted: Couch in a couch lawn is not a weed, but once it spreads into the garden it is a weed.
Weeds require some form of action to reduce their effects on the economy, the environment, human health or amenity (Australian Weeds Strategy 2007).

Far North Coast County Council, trading as Far North Coast Weeds (FNCW), works with a wide range of stakeholders to combat the spread of noxious weeds in the Northern Rivers region of NSW.
The council is the Local Control Authority responsible for administering the Noxious Weeds Act 1993 in the region.
We provide a cost-effective mechanism for control and management of noxious weeds.
It covers about 10,290 square kilometres, adjoining the Queensland border to the north, Tenterfield Shire to the west and Clarence Valley local-government area to the south.
Council’s approach to weed management has strong links with the Australian Weeds Strategy, the NSW Biodiversity Strategy, NSW Invasive Species Strategy and the NSW Weed Action Program.
