About Us

We are a subsidiary of Energy Queensland Limited, a State government-owned corporation. 

We build, operate and maintain the electricity distribution network in the growing region of South East Queensland which includes the major urban areas of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay.  Our electricity distribution area runs from the NSW border north to Gympie and west to the base of the Great Dividing Range.

Our world-class energy products, services and expertise has allowed us to provide electricity to homes and business for more than 100 years. Today, we provide distribution services to more than 1.4 million domestic and business connections, delivering electricity to a population base of around 3.4 million people.

This large responsibility brings with it the challenge of maintaining sufficient capacity to supply every home and business on the days when electricity demand is at its maximum, no matter where they are connected in the network.

To meet these expectations, we have a high-performing network that consists of property, plant and equipment assets worth about $12 billion.

These assets include in excess of:

  • 54,200 km of total overhead and underground lines
  • 680,000 poles (including both customer and public light poles)
  • 380,000 public lights
  • 50,000 distribution transformers.
By continually adapting the way we do business to keep pace with the evolving marketplace, we have stayed at the forefront of the industry.

How can I find out about an outage to my power supply?
There are many reasons why you might experience a power outage in your area – from planned maintenance on the network to unexpected outages due to severe weather, car accidents, high winds, hot weather, wildlife or technical issues. You can call us 13 62 62 as keeping customers informed regarding outages and expected restoration times is as important to us as it is to you.
What should i do if I'm moving house and need to get the power connected / disconnected?
We are no longer an electricity retailer, however we remain the electricity distributor to customers in South East Queensland and will continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of electricity to your home and business. You will need to contact your retailers for connections, disconnections, contracts, bills, prices and green energy options.
I want to build a house, how do I connect power to my block?
Connect your house, property or business to the electricity network for a reliable power supply. As part of this process, we need to confirm if power supply from our network is available to your premises. We’ll also need to establish a new connection contract with you.
What should i do if the meter reader couldn't get access to my property.
If we're unable to access your meter for any reason, we'll need to estimate your electricity usage based on previous data, which might not reflect your changing power usage. To update meter access information, contact your electricity retailer and provide current access details. From 1 February 2019 you can ask your electricity retailer to adjust your bill to be based on your self-read.
