FAQs
Will I get into Deakin with only work experience behind me?
Yes, many of our bachelor, graduate diploma and graduate certificate courses consider applicants without previous study experience. An up-to-date CV, strong personal statement and reliable references can make all the difference to you receiving an offer or not.
Am I eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL)?
We can only confirm your RPL once you've submitted an application. We assess applications on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration your previous course structure, credit weightings and in-depth unit assessments and learning outcomes in comparison to the units we offer here at Deakin.
Are online courses the same as their on-campus equivalent?
Absolutely. Classes, exams, course material, teachers and placement opportunities are exactly the same for all students regardless of whether you're studying online or on campus. This applies to your degree when you graduate too – it holds the same merit, irrespective of how, where and when you earned it.
Will Deakin maintain my Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) if I change to online mode?
Yes, Deakin will maintain your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) provided you are enrolled in either on-campus or off-campus (online) units and your course enrolment status remains on campus. It does not matter if you are located in Australia or another country.
I am currently overseas, what support is available to me?
We have developed a CloudDeakin site, dedicated to assisting students impacted by the COVID-19 travel ban. Please use this site to access important resources, assistance and support.
What's the number one tip for successfully studying from home?
t's really important to have a robust time management plan when studying online from home. Creating a schedule that breaks up your study time into manageable chunks will help you to stay focused and motivated, minimise distractions and meet your deadlines.
Where do I go for study support online?
Deakin's study support site is full of helpful resources and is the best place to start. If you need more personalised support, get in touch with one of our learning advisers, attend an online mentoring session, or try our 24/7 online tutoring and writing feedback service, Smarthinking.
Can I access the library from home?
Yes! There's a few different ways you can access the Deakin Library from home, including a wide range of ebooks and online resources, live chat and one-on-one online consultations with our Liaison Librarians, and free postal delivery of any physical items you may need.
