The Crown Solicitor is Mr Alan Morgan.  Mr Morgan has held the office of Crown Solicitor since February 2009.  Mr Morgan is assisted by a team of eight legal practitioners, three conveyancing clerks and four administrative staff.

The Office of the Crown Solicitor does not provide legal assistance to members of the public.  Members of the public requiring legal assistance should contact their own solicitor or the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania.

What We Do

The Office of the Crown Solicitor provides commercial law and conveyancing services to the Government.  These areas include:

  • preparation of all types of commercial agreements
  • property purchase, acquisition and disposal
  • property leasing and licensing
  • procurement of goods, services and information technology
  • competitive tendering and probity
  • engagement of contractors and consultants
  • protection and licensing of Crown copyright and intellectual property
  • governance, corporate and finance
  • grant agreements with Commonwealth agencies and with recipients
  • general legal services associated with the commercial aspects of all types of major infrastructure projects
