Chrismont incorporates the winery and cellar door operations in Cheshunt, in addition to estate vineyards located in Cheshunt & Whitfield. The beautiful, undulating property in the heart of the agriculturally rich and diverse King Valley was dedicated initially to tobacco production in the 1960’s. Arnie with his father Arnold transitioned the property to wine grape production in the late 1970’s.
"Over the almost 30 years since then, the King Valley and Chrismont vineyards have become synonymous with the production of high quality wine grapes for red, white, and sparkling wine. Of particular interest to the region, and indeed Chrismont, are the plantings of traditional Italian varieties in the area."
"On your travels, take note of the number of new varieties on offer in Victoria’s King Valley. They are popping up here, there, and everywhere, waiting for you to discover them."
James Halliday (The Weekend Australian, 22 Nov 2003)
The region was originally settled in the mid 1800s by Chinese migrants who landed in Robe in S.Australia & walked across to gold fields in Rutherglen and Beechworth.
In the late 1800s it became home to an influx of Irish settlers which included Australia's most recognised bushrangers – The Kelly Gang. It was around this time that John Brown began a little winery in Milawa which was to become Brown Brothers.
Chrismont's La Zona label showcases the Mediterranean varietals Albariño, Arneis, Pinot Grigio, Barbera, Marzemino & Sangiovese, Marzemino Frizzante, our delicate yet sprightly interpretation of a sparkling red refresher.
The Chrismont label offers Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz.
The Chrismont Premium wine range of wines are beautifully handcrafted and display the finest regional nuances of the cool-climate King Valley region.
The new Casa range of wines are easy drinking quality wines produced in the cool-climate King Valley.
The first block of Chrismont's vineyards was planted in 1980 by Arnie and his father, Arnold. The vineyards now span 250 acres.
With a similar climate and landscape to Piemonte and Tuscany in Italy and Alsace in France, long summer days enable the grapes to achieve genuine flavour ripeness which gives lovely fruit richness to the wines, while cool nights allow elegant cool climate characters to emerge.
