CatholicCare NT, formerly Centacare NT, is a social services agency operating under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Darwin.

CatholicCare NT is a member of Catholic Social Services Australia, a national body representing the Catholic Welfare Sector in Australia.

Currently we have staff located in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Melville, Bathurst Island and Port Keats. CatholicCare NT provides a range of services, which are variously funded:

Commonwealth and Territory Government Funding

Financial and “in kind” support from the Catholic Diocese of Darwin

Users pay for services received.

Our staff members are qualified and experienced.

Working with CatholicCare NT

CatholicCare NT was established in 1993, commencing with 2 employees operating three programs. Today there are approximately 115 employees and 35 programs providing services to various locations throughout the Northern Territory.

CatholicCare NT provides unique career and personal opportunities as a majority of our positions offer travel and the experience to work with Indigenous people and their communities.

Our Tradition

Bishop Ted Collins established CatholicCare in the Northern Territory in 1993. The Catholic Church has a long tradition in the Northern Territory dating back to the 1840's, and had been providing services to Darwin community for many years.

In 1992 Fr David Cappo who was the National Director of the Catholic Social Welfare Commission, met with the Bishop to discuss how other Dioceses were meeting Social Welfare needs of the community by having one Diocesan Social Service agency to meet the needs of the community.
