It provides long-term, medium term and short term secure, affordable and culturally appropriate accommodation and support services to disadvantaged people of the Townsville region.
Yumba-Meta housing company was established to provide suitable accommodation for the growing indigenous population of the Townsville region. Ernest Hoolihan was the founder and President of the association and he believed that Indigenous people had the right to equality of housing. The association purchased houses throughout the Townsville area which enabled Indigenous people to live in any suburb. This broke down barriers and allowed indigenous and non-Indigenous people to live together.
In addition to continuing to deliver its existing accommodation services, YMHAL has had significant growth in both service provision and assets securing government funding for several large projects.
In line with YMHAL’s vision and purpose the organisation has developed and delivers a variety of innovative and quality support services and accommodation options in addition to the provision of long term housing.
