In the early 1990s the Rockingham Congregation of the Uniting Church started to think about possibility of establishing a low fee Uniting Church school in the southern suburbs along the lines of St Stephens in Duncraig.
The idea was endorsed by the Synod and the Uniting Church Education Commission, under the leadership of its Executive Officer, Revd Owen Roberts, started the enormous amount of work that was needed to purchase land, meet Government Regulations, build the school, appoint staff, set up an interim Council and enrol the first students.
Mr Doug Burtenshaw was the Foundation Principal and Mrs Lillian Hadley was the first Chair of Council.
The motto of the College became "Uniting in Faith and Service" and mid blue, rust and oatmeal, reminiscent of ocean, settler hardship and farming, were selected as the College colours.
Building began in July 1996 with stage one being completed on January 29th, 1997, one day before classes started on January 30th. The school opened with 221 students, from Kindergarten to Year 8, and 24 staff and in September the Childcare Centre started to operate.
During first term 1997, the Tranby prayer was written by Tranby students and staff in preparation for the Official Opening on 18 May 1997.

Our professional learning community, through the structure shown below, define a landscape for questioning, identifying and formulating continuous improvement. The Board and the Principal have developed the overarching aims for our future. The Teaching and Learning Council are the implementers of the components in actioning the Strategic Plan for our College. It acknowledges how important the factors of well-being, curriculum design, objectives, assessments and reporting are.
