Lifeline was founded by the Reverend Alan Walker at Methodist Central Mission in Sydney in 1963. Since then, Lifeline services have been established around Australia and in many parts of the world.
Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter began in 1966 when Reverend John Chegwidden was awakened by a distressed telephone call from a man wanting to know if there was a Lifeline service operating in the region.
Lifeline Central Coast, began in Gosford in March 1981. It was formally opened at the Uniting Church Hall, Donnison Street, Gosford. The first call was taken at 1500 hr., officially at 377 Mann Street, Gosford. In 1986 Lifeline Central Coast moved to the current offices in Cary Street.
In 2013 Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter and Lifeline Central Coast amalgamated to cover a broader region and combine administrative services so that more money can go back in to the life saving services.
Over the years, Lifeline Hunter Central Coast has expanded its operations from the traditional telephone crisis support service to include a range of services to relieve the stress and pain of the people in our local community.
