Glasgow Engineering Company Pty Ltd has been operating from its William Street site since its inception in 1892. This is very unique for Launceston’s industrial heritage, and the company is now the oldest operating engineering firm in Tasmania and possibly Australia. The building itself is somewhat unique for Launceston’s industrial heritage, being listed under the National Estate as a 'good example of an Edwardian industrial building featuring an arched facade of fine proportions with an interesting use of bricks’. It is believed that the front facade was constructed around 1900, being built in front of the existing galvanised iron building facing William St. It was first named Tamar Foundry and was founded by Messrs Scott & Clark at around 1892.
