About the Council

Cairns Regional Council plays a fundamental role in planning and providing for the Cairns community. 

It services a population of over 150,000 people across an area of nearly 1700km2 from Bramston Beach to Palm Cove. Council delivers more than 400 services and functions, from roads and bridges, rubbish collection, water and sewerage to economic development, natural resource management, libraries and major community events.

Cairns Regional Council comprises nine elected divisional Councillors and a popularly-elected Mayor. It is controlled by the Queensland Local Government Act, with numerous responsibilities devolved to it by the State Government.
