Alternate Care is fully licensed under the Child Protection Act 1999. We are a community based organisation providing direct support to children and young people in care.


Alternate Care receives the support of the broader community who value the lives of children and young people at risk and are prepared to engage cooperatively with government and smaller communities so as to ensure better opportunities for those who are most vulnerable.

Services

Alternate Care is a community based organisation that operates in Far North Queensland that supports children/young people who have been assessed as having complex needs.

Assistance for the provision of specialised services is received from Child Safety Services, Department of Communities, Department of Education Queensland; Disability Services Queensland, Queensland Department of Health.


Alternate Care also provides direct support by arrangement, to other community organisations for the provision of a variety of professional services.


Out of Home Care Options

Alternate Care offers a range of out-of-home care options for children/young people, flexibly arranged under four service delivery units -

  • Single and dual child/young person centred Wrap Around Support Services - for children/young people with extreme and complex needs
  • Specialist Foster Care Program
  • Therapeutic Placement Services and

  • Residential Services (including Cultural Specific, Disability Support Focussed and Emergency Response Services [ERS])

Alternate Care's Vision is to - 'To measurably improve the lives of children/young people who are at most risk in Queensland’s Far North.'


Our Mission is - 'To ensure that children/young people in Queensland's Far North who have moderate - high or complex - extreme needs will have greater opportunity to access services that are more flexible and responsive towards establishing their safety, enhancing their potential development, and ensuring a positive identification with 'self' and subsequent wellbeing.'
