Our business provides a daily service to all points in Tasmania from both Sydney and Melbourne. We are carriers of general and palletised cargo and consolidate all freight in our depots for transport in shipping containers. Freight ex Sydney travels by rail to Melbourne; containers are then transferred by our staff to the wharf for shipping to Tasmania. Melbourne to Tasmania is a direct daily service.
Allalong Tasmanian Searoads have been servicing the island of Tasmania for more than thirty years now. From humble beginnings in a small rented shed in the original Sydney Haulage Terminal in Bellevue St, St Peters, Allalong has gradually built a name for itself in what is a niche market in the transport industry.
When the business commenced, the company had only the one office in Sydney and used Hazell Bros Transport in Tasmania as an unloading and delivery agent. The Melbourne depot was established in March 1988 working out of rented premises for a number of years until settling into their own yard in Maria Street, Laverton North in 1992.
Due to the constant growth and demand for improved services, Allalong opened a Launceston Branch in its own right in early 1989. Later the same year the purchase of the Rigby Bros Transport Group in Hobart allowed the company to move into their own premises in Sunderland St, Moonah, which we still occupy today. Permanent premises followed in both Sydney and Launceston.
For many years the company traded under its official registered name ‘Allalong Trucking Agents Pty Ltd’, which at a glance bore no relationship to the service the business actually provided. In 1990 Allalong acquired ‘Tasmanian Searoads’ and thus ‘Allalong Tasmanian Searoads’ was born.
Those thirty years have seen many changes in the business, both good and bad. We have seen the ship ex Sydney fall by the wayside. Originally the business employed less than ten people. Today we employ approx. 50 people on a full time basis. The company now owns all its own depots in the four main operational points: Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and Launceston.
We are proud to be able to say that we still have customers with us today who have been with us since our Tasmanian service commenced all those years ago.
