This specific set of standards for electronic files has been created by Sensis to ensure optimum quality is achieved from customer supplied electronic files. Meeting these standards will ensure files are processed correctly first time.
Electronic files must be supplied using Macintosh readable CD-ROM or DVDs or emailed directly to your sales consultant.
All media is to be transferred to Sensis via a White Pages® advertising consultant. Media supplied by the customer will be retained by Sensis with the copysheets as an integral part of the customer service file unless otherwise requested by the customer.
Important
All ads must conform to the current Sensis Advertising Rules. For more information, contact your White Pages® advertising consultant.

The Sensis production environment uses a Macintosh G5 computer system, employing Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop software.
Provided the file format and ad construction rules are followed, it does not matter whether art is created on a Windows or MacOS platform. The Mac can read PC-origin files.
All files must be supplied with a hard copy.
A PDF file or a low resolution JPEG/TIFF file can also be attached.
Because Sensis only accepts TIFF/EPS and .ai/EPS file formats it is recommended that customer complete White Pages directory ads be designed and built in Adobe Illustrator or a vector program which allows files to be exported as an .ai/EPS file.
Scanned images that form part of the ad layout should be placed in Illustrator with the original scans included in a folder named 'Placed Images'.
Sensis uses Bitstream fonts only. All fonts used in electronic artwork must be converted to outlines before the files are supplied. Sensis does not install or manage fonts supplied by customers.
Converting types to outlines is not difficult and means there is no need for fonts. Converting types to outlines also gives the customer more control over the finished appearance of their ad.
Linework images are to be scanned and supplied at a resolution of 1016dpi at 100% and saved as Bitmap TIFF.
Greyscale images are to be scanned and supplied at a resolution of 200dpi at 100% and saved as Greyscale EPS.
Colour images are to be scanned and supplied at a resolution of 200dpi at 100% and saved as RGB TIFF. It is important to remove alpha channels.
It is preferable that text be supplied as a separate .ai/EPS file created in Illustrator or a similar program. If this is not possible it can be supplied as a Photoshop file at a resolution of 400dpi.
Sensis uses a customised set of print profiles when preparing colour image data for YP & WP directories. To take advantage of this, and achieve best print quality, customers supplying their own colour scans should supply them in RGB mode.
Optimum scan quality can be achieved by supplying original photographs or positive transparencies for in-house scanning. In instances where art has been scanned by customer, Sensis will not accept responsibility for the quality of image reproduction.
Photographs and other artwork should not be sourced from the Internet, as the quality is likely to be lower than the required for good reproduction in the YP & WP directories. Best results will be achieved when good quality original photographs are supplied. Poor quality images may not be accepted.
When supplying photos from digital cameras it is recommended that they be supplied as large as possible allowing us to resample the 72dpi image to the required 200dpi. These images would be supplied as a JPEG file.
Illustrator users, ensure that the Overprint options in the Attributes window are unchecked. Checking these options will result in printing errors.
The standard directory colors of blue, green, red and black are the only colours available in standard spot colour ads. In white knockout ads yellow is also available. Colours in these ads cannot be mixed to create additional colours. Colour components may butt up to one another but not overlap.
Spot colours must be defined using these CMYK values:
| Blue | 100% cyan | |
| Green | 100% cyan and 80% yellow | |
| Red | 100% magenta and 80% yellow | |
| Yellow | 100% yellow |
No other colours may be used within ads or art.
Spot colours and tints may not be overlaid to create additional colour schemes.
Blends/Vignettes using two or more spot colours is Unacceptable.
Minimum reproducible tint is 15%. Tints and blends should not go below these values for effective reproduction.
Process colour ads allow advertisers to use full colour photographs as well as custom colours created by mixing process colours Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK).
Ink Load (Total Ink Limits) - Process colour mixes must not exceed a Total Ink Limit of 220%.
Defining process colours - When defining process colours in Adobe Illustrator (or similar application) only CMYK values should be used. Other colour gamuts such as RGB & HSB are unacceptable.
Black - Black must not be defined to include values of CMY.
A composite proof accurately depicting the ad or art must be supplied as a hard copy. A PDF file or a low resolution JPEG/TIFF file can also be attached in conjunction with all electronic files.
The following formats will be accepted if supplied as follows:
Unacceptable file formats include:
Sensis would prefer that files not be compressed. If this is not possible, then the following file compression formats are acceptable:
Responsibility for the quality and suitability of all electronic files rests with the customer and or agent. Sensis Advertising & Design will not accept or process files which are not compatible with its production environment. Electronic artwork supplied using incorrect file formats or construction methods will be returned to the customer for correction.
